New Program Encourages Louisianians to Vacation Inside Their Home State

Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser unveiled a new tourism initiative designed to promote in-state travel by Louisianians. The program is called Destination Louisiana. Each month, one destination in the state is chosen to receive multi-platform coverage from the Louisiana Office of Tourism (LOT). The destination will rotate between north, southwest and southeast regions of the state. The first destination featured as part of the initiative will be Iberia Parish, home to places such as Tabasco, Rip Van Winkle Gardens, and the Shadows on the Teche.

“In Louisiana, we have a lot of great places to see and things to do. With this initiative, we are encouraging people to use their passion for this state as the catalyst to staycation here,” said Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser. “Too often, we may take for granted where we live. Our Destination Louisiana initiative is an opportunity to showcase all the great reasons to get out and enjoy our state’s cities, State Parks, renowned lakes and campgrounds, and historic places.”

In collaboration with LOT, travel professionals in each featured destination of the month will chose the creative campaign to hit statewide markets. Each month, the destination will be featured on digital billboards in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Monroe, Lafayette and Lake Charles.

Additionally, each destination will benefit from 1,000 radio commercials with Lt. Governor Nungesser encouraging Louisianians to visit the Destination of the Month, along with full-page, print advertisements.

The Louisiana Office of Tourism will promote the Destination Louisiana highlighted area in a monthly E-Newsletter, on the Louisiana Travel website, and across all social media platforms.

The first six participants of Destination Louisiana include:

  • May: Iberia Parish
  • June: Lincoln Parish
  • July: Jefferson Parish
  • August: Cajun Coast (St. Mary Parish)
  • September: Washington Parish
  • October: Sabine Parish
