]]>MSWIT, an organization of women in all areas of the tourism industry, distributes funds from the event to support the Cancer Association of Louisiana, the New Orleans Family Justice Center, and Dress for Success New Orleans. The charitable affair will also provide a $1000 award for a student enrolled in the University of New Orleans’ Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Graduate Program.
In addition to a runway show of fashions provided by Dress for Success New Orleans, the afternoon’s festivities include a buffet lunch, bottomless mimosa bar with souvenir champagne flute, a spectacular Parade of Prizes, and a Travel Partners Marketplace with vendors from across Louisiana.

]]>Our August 20th Dinner meeting will take place at Olde NOLA Cookery Restaurant located at 205 Bourbon Street (next to Galatoire’s). Olde NOLA Cookery is part of the same restaurant group that owns Oceana Grill, Mambo’s and Bobby Hebert’s Cajun Cannon. (NOTE…we will be dining in the private room on the second floor but there is NO ELEVATOR so all attendees will need to take the stairs.)
Erika Barado, event coordinator for this great group of restaurants, has indicated that you will be able to select your preferred entree when your waiter takes your order on site.
Our speakers for this month are key representatives from our three selected non-profits (CALA, NOFJC & DFS New Orleans) who will share in the funds raised from our Fashion Fundraiser on September 7. Each will give us their brief explanation of the services they provide to women in our community so we all have a better understanding why it’s so important that we raise as much funds at our event as possible.

Our July 23rd Dinner Meeting at Landry’s Seafood House, 620 Decatur St. (JAX Brewery) is next Tuesday, July 23. DEADLINE for the final guarantee is this Friday at Noon.

Shantrell M. Green is a New Orleans native with a bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts from Dillard University and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of New Orleans. Shantrell is a member of Alpha Psi Omega National Theatre Society. Shantrell is also a MOM Manager of one with over ten years in the entertainment business Shantrell has partnered with New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival,Essence Music Festival, New Orleans Film Festival, Satchmo Festival and more. With an impressive background in theatre and film, Shantrell has curated many community engagements and serves as a resources hub for young professionals. After graduating Dillard University in 2015, Shantrell immediately went into the film industry as a Casting Assistant, Costumer, and Production Coordinator. She has had the privilege of working with high profile celebrities on featured films, commercials, television shows, casting calls, and VIP event planning. Shantrell also started a nonprofit organization for adults and children interested in film, theatre, and television called Project Gumbeaux. She was granted the honor of becoming the first black woman to work at the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra as the House Manager and Box Office Manager. For the past eight years, Shantrell has been leading and curating community events for companies such as Dillard University Theatre Department, NORDC, Urban League of Louisiana and Holmes Healthcare Training Facility. In 2016, she opened her first profitable business, SMG Entertainment, specializing in event services, photography, dance fitness, youth empowerment, and 360 & Photobooth rentals. Thanks to MSWIT Member Sondra Corbitt, Executive Director of Explore Houma, along with Tyler Duplantis, Destination Sales Manager for Explore Houma, we have a fantastic day planned for this year’s Mid South Women In Tourism all day FAM trip to Terrebonne Parish taking place on TUESDAY, MARCH 26 .
We will board the Hotard Bus at 8:15 am in the parking lot of the new GAME ON SOCIAL HUB attraction at 2421 Veterans Hwy in Kenner (between Home Depot and Roosevelt St.) Thank you Christy Dillard for providing the free parking! We will have coffee & donuts and bottled water available for those who arrive early as the bus must depart PROMPTLY at 8:30 to head to our first stop!
Tyler has created a detailed summary with pictures of our tours/timeline. It’s an hour’s drive to Houma and we really need to arrive at 9:30 to stick to our schedule. Southdown Plantation/The Terrebonne Museum will be where we will have a wonderful buffet lunch including…

Our Speaker is Grayhawk Perkins
Grayhawk Perkins is best described as a “21st Century Renaissance Man” The musician, historian, artist, author, tribal storyteller, naturalist and educator was born in New Orleans and has lived on the northshore for 24 years, but he says, “Everybody claims me.” Of Choctaw and Houma Nation descendancy, his heart’s work is preserving the traditions of his people through music, storytelling, cooking, writing, crafts, artwork, and more. His never-meta-stranger personality helps. After five minutes with Perkins, you feel like you’ve known him all your life.
For our brief presentation, Grayhawk will focus on the many Native American traditions that intertwine in our daily lives today.
